Vehicle Fleeing Police Smashes into Tampa Bar, Claiming 4 Dead and 11 Injured

A high-speed car that was fleeing law enforcement crashed into a crowded bar early on the weekend, claiming the lives of 4 individuals and injuring eleven in a historic district of Tampa, known for its nightlife and visitors.

An air surveillance unit with the local law enforcement agency spotted the car driving dangerously on a highway at approximately 12.40am after police stated the light-colored car had been observed street racing in another area, as per a law enforcement announcement.

The Florida road police intercepted the vehicle and attempted to execute a maneuver that involves striking a rear fender of a fleeing vehicle to cause it to spin out, called a pit, but it was ineffective.

State police officers “ended pursuit” as the car raced toward the historic downtown area near downtown, local police reported. Ultimately, the driver failed to maintain control of the car and struck over a dozen individuals near the bar, officials said.

3 individuals died at the location and a fourth person succumbed at a medical facility. As of the next day, a fifth casualty was hospitalized in serious state, and 8 additional victims were being treated at local hospitals but were listed as not critical, police stated. Two additional individuals experienced slight injuries and declined medical aid at the scene. All 15 people are grown individuals.

“What happened today was a pointless tragedy, we are with the loved ones of the deceased and everyone who were impacted,” the Tampa police chief expressed in a statement.
