The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often a very good mood around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
