Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
