Six Suspects Apprehended Following 12 Million Euro Heist on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

A group of six individuals using high-powered firearms employed explosives to breach the security of a precious metals processing plant located in Lyon, France, slightly injuring five workers during described as the most recent prominent broad daylight robbery to affect the country.

The bold operation was carried out on Thursday afternoon, with law enforcement authorities rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and securing the stolen items assessed at around €12 million (10.5 million pounds), officials reported.

Five workers of the precious metals facility received light wounds as a result of the detonation, and three employees required hospital checks for assessment, officials confirmed. Twenty-eight workers were present on-site when the thieves struck.

The individuals, thought to be seasoned offenders, were arrested shortly after the incident in the adjacent municipality of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.

A woman involved who took part in the heist was also apprehended, officers confirmed.

“Six individuals who utilized explosives in a raid against a metals processing plant in Lyon, France were arrested at the scene,” the French interior minister stated online, lauding police for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.

The raid happened as French police on that Thursday detained five further people, including a primary suspect, in connection with the bold theft at the Louvre.

Many investigative personnel have been hunting four robbers who utilized a lorry equipped with a moving lift and cutting equipment to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the renowned museum on October 19th, escaping with precious items estimated to be worth €88M.

In a separate high-profile case, burglars recently broke into the Natural History Museum in Paris, making off with gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A young Chinese female was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona in connection with the break-in, officials confirmed.

The string of thefts has generated apprehension in the country regarding lax security at museums and various establishments holding high-value objects.
