An extensive two-month cruise circling the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the ship staff realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation located her person the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the ship were informed that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".
