Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key changes:

  • Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
