Series of Incidents
Since the onset of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military commanders have been targeted within Moscow.
This latest event follows other high-profile incidents, for instance:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a device placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a Ukrainian source earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are never officially confirmed as a matter of policy.
The conflict has increasingly seen clandestine operations reaching into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death is still ongoing.
